REUTERS/Susana Vera/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOTTAWA, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Canada will face rising economic uncertainty if the province of Alberta carries out a threat to withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Friday. Alberta Finance Minister Nate Horner later on Friday said the province would not leave fellow Canadians without a stable pension and its associated benefits. "For the past several weeks, Alberta has been having an open discussion about the possibility of establishing an Alberta Pension Plan that will benefit our seniors and workers," he said. The so-called Alberta Pension Protection Act would require Albertans to vote in favor of a pension plan for the province during a public referendum before the provincial government would seek to withdraw assets, the statement said. "Alberta would need to negotiate complex time-consuming portability agreements with the CPP and with the Quebec Pension Plan," she said.

Horner says Ricciardo looking like his old self again

MEXICO CITY, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Red Bull boss Christian Horner hailed the return of the Daniel Ricciardo of old on Sunday as the Australian raced to AlphaTauri's best result of the season at the Mexico City Grand Prix. "You couldn't fail to be impressed by Daniel this weekend," Horner told Sky Sports television. "I think fighting a Mercedes in an AlphaTauri for their best result of the year was a great performance. Ricciardo had qualified fourth on Saturday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and told reporters that performance was no fluke. He could have had it today but it wasn't to be but great to see Daniel looking like his old self."

Sergio Perez was still in Texas when he called the Mexico City Grand Prix his most important race weekend of the season. And while Perez has been part Red Bull's crushing constructor's championship, Verstappen is so dominant that he would have Red Bull in first place all by himself. His photo adorns just about everything in Mexico City this week, from race promotional billboards, television commercials and ads for car insurance and breakfast oats. “I don't think Max is going to get the warmest reception in Mexico,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said this week. “I want Mexico to come out to support the whole Oracle Red Bull Racing Team, not just me,” he said.

Perez to feel the love even if the dream is dashed

"I don't think Max is going to get the warmest reception in Mexico," commented team boss Christian Horner after Verstappen won to boos in Austin last Sunday. Perez, with 'Never Give Up' prominent on a specially-designed helmet for the occasion, remains positive despite a run of poor form. Perez, a winner twice this year, has been off the podium in his previous four outings and beaten by Verstappen in the last 14. The next three races are in Texas, Mexico and Brazil where Perez can count on strong support as the only Latin American driver. "I think we really need to sit down with Checo (Perez)because we know what he’s capable of and he’s not hitting that form at the moment," Horner told reporters. "We desperately need him to find that form to keep this second place in the championship. Perez and Verstappen were level 2-2 on wins until Miami, when Verstappen started a run of 10 wins in a row. We’ve done that and the next best thing after that would be to have both your drivers first and second," said Horner.

LONDON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Red Bull were able to celebrate their second Formula One title double in a row in Japan at the weekend, even if Max Verstappen must wait until October to be confirmed as a triple champion. The fact that Perez is now the only driver who can mathematically beat Verstappen to the title meant Red Bull had done the double for a sixth time. "Only a Red Bull driver can win the championship which is a great way to go into the next few races." That means Verstappen needs only three points to be champion even if the Mexican bags a maximum score at Lusail. It has been 36 races since Verstappen last came away from a weekend without scoring at least three points.

Kuss victory can boost U.S. road racing, says Horner

LONDON, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Sepp Kuss's unlikely victory in La Vuelta a Espana could provide a timely boost for a flagging road cycle racing scene in the United States, according to Chris Horner whose 2013 triumph Kuss emulated on Sunday. The 29-year-old Kuss entered the race as a 'domestique' for more illustrious Jumbo-Visma team mates Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic. The road race scene is hardly booming in the U.S with few stage-racing opportunities for up-and-coming riders after the demise of the Tour of California, Colorado and Utah. "The racing scene in the U.S. is drowning or at best its nose is over the water. They were having meetings before the race, during the race, after the race, and then before everyone went to bed.

The 29-year-old ended 17 seconds ahead of Denmark's Tour de France winner Vingegaard with Slovenia's Giro d'Italia winner Roglic one minute and eight seconds behind in third place. There was a celebratory mood amongst the Dutch team on the 101km 21st stage that concluded on a street circuit around the landmarks of Madrid. But the battle for the stage victory was a high-octane thriller as a small lead group featuring Groves and Remco Evenepoel was caught by the peloton in the final 500m. While Kuss celebrated the overall victory, Groves secured the green jersey for the points category -- the first Australian to achieve that in the Vuelta. When Kuss took the red jersey from Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ) on stage eight, most thought he was just keeping it warm for either Vingegaard or Roglic.

SINGAPORE, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Big lizards are a familiar sight in equatorial Singapore but they startled Red Bull's double world champion Max Verstappen and other drivers after straying onto the Formula One racetrack during practice on Friday. "It's going to be a brave marshal to go out and pick one of those up," Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Sky Sports television. Local fauna are not uncommon company, with drivers used to groundhogs and foxes on Canada's Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal. Friday's lizard incursion recalled the 2016 Singapore race when Verstappen was surprised on track by a big one that his engineer dubbed "Godzilla". They are also diurnal, meaning they sleep at night, and will hopefully pose no further difficulty for drivers preparing for Sunday's night race.

Energy investment in Africa needs to more than double by the end of the decade if the continent is to meet its energy and climate goals. “Energy investment on our continent has fallen short,” wrote William Ruto, president of Kenya, in the report’s foreword.
